想起去Time上逛逛是由于那天我读到一篇讲时代杂志的CEO Ann Moore的文章，说她在为旗下的杂志找一份出路，毕竟在这个经济萧条、网络阅读又快速普及的时候，大家买杂志的预算都纷纷消减了，于是Moore试图想一个让大众渐渐接受的方法进行收费（比如最近它推出了paid subscription），如果顺利可能一两年后Time的网站文章和数据就不再是完全免费公开的了，不过作为网络公开内容最多的一家杂志门户，Time还是很大气的。

昨天熄灯前匆匆看了一下它家总结08年的list，挑“10个主要网站”和“2008年50个最好的网站”两个list来说说好勒，还蛮好玩，忍不住分享，虽然不是那么的及时：）

基本篇：10 Essential Sites
（Time定义为Sites We Can’t Live Without，这就imply着不知道的人都可以抱着电脑jump in well了，可惜其中有几个我以前还真不知道）：

Google：这没什么好说的，yes，I really cannot live without google.

Wikipedia.org：的确是网路上的自由百科全书，没有它就没有我的GRE作文。the most popular online encyclopedia on the Web. 在Microsoft Live search中,只要输入wiki里相关的词汇,在搜索结果中会自动显示wiki中该词的第一段。
Facebook：SNS的祖先，校内海内开心等等的原型，Time说If MySpace is a PC, then Facebook is a Mac，我觉得没啥感觉，actually，Facebook is as ugly as MySpace，但是不可否认它还是蛮厉害的。

Flickr：很简单，po照片的地方。

Digg：geek的聚集地，share出找到的趣闻，然后通过推荐人数来决定rank。

Yahoo! Finance：雅虎财经资讯all the criticism about Yahoo!’s failure to innovate, its finance site showcases the best of what the company has to offer。它的及时性把经常晚个二十分钟的Google Finance给比了下去。

Craigslist：这网在国内应该是冷门，我进去看了一下发现还蛮壮观的，你可以在这里找到世界各个城市（不过中国只有北京上海广州深圳杭州和香港）的商品打折信息、房屋买卖信息、ONS信息、工作信息。。。。。online classified market. the essential site for want ads ranging from real estate and used furniture to jobs, romance and one-night stands。

ESPN：体育类。。。。不感兴趣=_=。ESPN is synonymous with sports. Die-hard fans come straight to this megasite for scores, schedules and analysis, then hang around for the video highlights, games and podcasts。

Yelp：关于餐厅、商场的调查报告网，an independent site with millions of user-submitted evaluations of restaurant, shop or business。
（类似的Savory Cities：不过这主要是针对New York、San Francisco、Chicago、Los Angeles这四个城市的餐厅）

TMZ:哈哈，the most popular gossip site on the Web，你想收集明星甚至政客、议员八卦小道消息吗，here is what u want。。

进阶篇：50 Best Websites 2008

可以在这里看到完整的名单和投票结果。下面列出些我觉得蛮有意思或者蛮有用的：

SearchMe：highlight＋重点推荐＋撒花，这是search界的MAC！你可以看到类似于itunes排列专辑和podcast那种试样的搜索结果预览，可以提前设定要搜索的内容的类别，可以先预存网页在stacks里。我在FF上用没问题，IE肯定更没问题了，其他没试过。（ps：可惜对中文的支持不好）

ConcreteLoop.com：八卦网站。TMZ的黑人版，上面的gossip对象大部分是黑人里的名人和明星比如usher、Rihanna（两个都是是我喜欢的singer）之类的，In addition to the usual paparazzi shots and rumors, you’ll find posts on fashion and politics, as well as tons of comments from ConcreteLoop’s audience of nearly a million regular readers.

Health.com：你可以在上面看到各种疾病如何危害人们的生活和他们与疾病做斗争的故事、视频，病人可以获得鼓励，不生病的看看就知道自己多么身在福中不知福了。Although it does not delve as thoroughly into science and treatment as the other sites, Health.com does a better job of addressing the related emotional issues.

PopSugar：如果网站有性别，这个是个MM，算是英文版的海报网把，a total delight — an emporium of celebrity, fashion, beauty and even tech news for young, style-conscious women.

Rate My Professors：国外的教授还是蛮可怜了，比如这个网，学生们都可以上去八一八自己的教授，任何方面——当然也会有反对意见、当事人的辩解和热烈的讨论。Students can anonymously grade profs on everything from how difficult they are to the clarity of their lectures — and now teachers can add rebuttals of their own.

Geni：家族树大家都知道，这就是个画家谱的网站，简单快捷，有趣，and free。the free site gives you the basic tools for diagramming your ancestry, and it also lets you invite others to contribute. 如果你需要更加专业的网站，那么就去Ancestry.com（有中文版）, Family Search

Mint：记录你在网上的消费信息，帮你管理财政。金融理财类的social network，是Geezeofrom TheStreet.com，你可以在上面share financial goals and tips。

Nymbler：取英文名的网站，蛮有趣的。

picnik：照片在线编辑。

Pixelgirl Presents：要找些漂亮的东东装饰下pc、mac或者iphone的桌面吗？The free, high-quality artwork showcased here is submitted by outside creators

TinyURL.com：一个缩短网址的网站。禅叔的可能吧有详细的文章《微博客，微服务》之网址缩短。

Mobaganda.com：当有个活动或者聚会，想邀请几个朋友，那就去这里好勒，自动生成邀请卡连接，并且无需注册，邀请卡保存60天。

Urban Dictionary：哈哈，很可爱的网站，搜集各种流行的行话、隐语解释的网站。Time上说orget about learning Spanish or Chinese. The language you really need to know to keep up — in the U.S. anyway — is street lingo（行话）。类似的有Internet Slang Dictionary & Translator,网上用语字典，米国的父母如果想搞懂他家小朋友在说什么火星文，就去这个网站上查询下咯，厚厚。

COLOURlovers：如果你想知道现在流行什么颜色，或者设计网站时想知道那种配色方案最ok，就来这里看看。

HypeBeast：这里有世界上各种独特的、限量的东西，有钱也买不到那种（更何况没钱-_-||)，但是没关系，不能吃猪肉咱也看看猪跑嘛，这个就是传说中的window shopping，厚厚。

Net-a-Porter：HypeBeast的姐妹篇。不同的是这里往往是很有名的设计师设计的fashion togs。

WikiSky：你知道吗，我们不一定要去房顶上看星星，我们可以在屏幕上看星星…囧。不过的确很漂亮，而且还支持中文。类似的还有Sloan Digital Sky Survey

PsychCentral：感觉自己有心理问题？？别紧张，这个网站也许可以帮助你。可以做测试、寻求医生帮助（这个没试过，不知道是否free），还有相关的文章，如何面对沮丧、治疗失恋之类的，很体贴的网站。类似的网站有MentalHelp.net，不过这个似乎就是专业型的了，比如如何判断儿童注意力分散症、治疗焦虑症等等。

TIME还有一些很有趣专题，比如The Top 10 Everything of 2008，分为news and science/arts and entertainment/business,tech and sports/pop culture四个类，每类都有一些非常有意思的topic，而且每个list都只有10个，短小精炼，图多文少，读起来一点都不累，值得去看看。
